Granary produces and presents new and experimental work by artists across disciplines. The programme combines work in theatre, performance, dance, live art, installation, and music, with a lively critical programme of PERFORUM talks, workshops and artists' presentations. Granary is situated between the academy and the city; a space of lively criticism / art practice. More than a hundred undergraduate and postgraduate students in Drama & Theatre Studies, study, work, and perform in Granary, contributing to debate and practice, and welcoming the perspective of the professional artist & critic.
Granary explores contemporary performance and art practices from a range of thematic, theoretical, historical and pedagogic perspectives, introducing new work by international artists who have not shown before in Ireland, as well as examining historical moments of experimentation. Granary seeks to complement existing theatre / arts programmes within the city, and seeks to offer opportunities for Cork-based artists to show work. Granary collaborates with numerous arts and community organisations. It works in partnership with Drama & Theatre Studies at UCC, as well as other universities and colleges. A strong emphasis is placed on developing people's interest in new forms of performance through regular fora for debate.
